| The care sector has seen
considerable changes during the 1990`s. There are now two
distinct players in the market, the Corporate Nursing Home
owner, with over 1000 beds and the owner/operator with a Single
Home.
Many Nursing/Residential Care Homes have
witnessed a considerable drop in occupancy levels, brought
about through diminishing referrals from Social Services,
who in turn are under budgetary constraints.
Whilst the demographics show there will
be an increased need for the sector, many older Homes with
outdated facilities have found it difficult to comply with
Local Authority requirements. This should give purpose built
Homes an advantage in the future as single en-suite bedrooms
become the norm.
In view of competition a number of operators
have diversified into specialist Homes covering categories
such as: Learning Disabilities, Mentally Handicapped, Drug
Dependency, Alzheimer's.
